Until recently, with the exception of the occasional Vietnamese drip coffee with condensed milk, I rarely made coffee at home. It just seemed like too much hassle, especially since the art of preparing a good coffee isn't something I've ever learned or mastered.
As technology continues to wow us, and as convenience carries on to become an even bigger demand in our lives, coffee lovers have been welcoming a myriad of kitchen gadgets and appliances into their homes.
Thanks to the team at Fleishman-Hillard, who knew of my love for coffee and sent over my very own Philips Saeco Exprelia to test; I've been sipping cafe-style coffees at home, every morning over the last few months, while still in my PJs!
This sexy piece of machine transforms freshly ground coffee beans into cafe-style coffee with the push of a button!
And it's so automated that it almost cleans itself! (It does an automatic coffee circuit rinse, an automatic milk circuit rinse, and a descaling cycle so all you have to do is tip out the coffee grounds tray and wash the removable milk carafe!)
There's just a few steps required to making coffee and maintaining
this machine. What I love, is that it's pretty much fail-proof. Add
water, add beans, milk and go.
You can even customize the machine to remember how you like your coffee! Settings options include coffee length, intensity, temperature, crema and body structure!
What I've been most impressed with, is how quick it takes the machine to heat, and produce silky, frothy milk.
Imagine making cappuccinos like this, without taking a barista course!
The Philips Saeco Exprelia also makes effortless short blacks, ...
... delightful latte macchiatos, ...
... and of course, who can resist an affogato? When a hot shot of espresso meets a scoop of good quality vanilla bean ice-cream, it's simply magical.
I did try to record this one-touch coffee making process, but the video will never look as sexy as the official demonstration:
In terms of automatic coffee machines, I am definitely impressed by the capability of the Philips Saeco Exprelia. Not only does it offer full bean-to-cup control, but it also delivers the perfect crema, froth, and balance time after time. The one touch process makes it the ideal appliance for those that can't quite function without their morning coffee before they get dressed for the day. Plus I'm in love with the ease of maintenance!
However, this isn't a machine for everyone. For example, it's not for those who enjoy mastering the art of pulling a great shot. But if you're seeking consistency and convenience, then this machine is pretty sleek.
The only one let down is the inability to produce a creamy caffe latte. But I've just learned that the next model up (Philips Saeco Xelsis) has this functionality! However, that model is priced at $3299! Ouch!
On a brighter note, if you have access to quality freshly roasted coffee beans (this makes all the difference!), and the disposable income, then I do think the clever features of the Philips Saeco Exprelia is a worthy candidate to produce your daily grind. As you may have seen in my recent kitchen makeover photos, this appliance now takes up A-grade space on my benchtop as it has really grown on me!
