Over the last year, I have grown more and more in love with my new neighbourhood. A local café/restaurant that I particularly adore is La Grande Bouffe. It's a small corner French eatery that serves up scrumptious breakfast, lunch and dinner. This blog post will attempt to cover all three!
Breakfast is served until 11:30am and features lots of delectable options including this croque madame with fried duck egg ($13). It is ham, cheese and duck egg on toasted brioche. Oh, this dish brings back so many tasty Paris memories!

There's also the smoked salmon with potato cake, poached eggs and onion jam ($16.50)...

Or for mornings when you have a large appetite, the big breakfast ($16) will sure satisfy. There's eggs, mushrooms, tomato, bacon, Toulouse sausage and a potato rosti.

I have the oeufs sur le plat with wilted spinach and truffled mushroom duxelles ($14.50). This smells incredible. I instantly poke the two egg yolks which burst all over the beautiful earthiness of the truffled mushrooms.
My only complaint is that we're only given a quarter of a baguette. Some of us have the top halves and others have the bottom. Thankfully I have the fluffy, crusty top half. I'd feel so duped if I had the bottom half! It'd almost be as bad as being serve just the bottom of a muffin. Hehehe... Remember the Muffin Top episode of Seinfeld?

Pictured below is the duck confit baguette with cornichon ($12.50) and a side of pomme frites ($8). The duck confit is meltingly tender, rich and aromatic.

On another occasion, I'm too tired to cook dinner so we turn to this trusty French neighbour to feed us.
Escargot with garlic butter are served as complimentary appetisers.
I have the twice cooked beef cheeks, carrot puree, winter vegetables and cepes ($32). It is such a winter warmer. The beef cheeks have a crisp almost-crackling-like crust which breaks into succulent flakes of meat.
Sides are pomme frites ($8), yes, again, because I love my chips... And green beans with hazelnut vinaigrette ($8.50).
