Options are aplenty when it comes to breakfast in Balmain, and two spots I really really like are Kazbah and Pizza e Birra.
Over the last few years, Kazbah has become rather renowned for its breakfast banquets where for $25 per person (minimum eight people), you are fed like kings and queens. But if you can't round up seven other people for the feast, you can still get a bloody good breakfast.
Freshly squeezed juice of the day is a dear $6.50, which is hard to justify when I have my own juicer at home. There are two juices of the day on offer this time. Watermelon with ginger and pineapple with mint and lime. They're both really good despite the glass being very small.
I also have a tea ($4) and others have the mocha ($4.50).
The flavours at Kazbah are inspired by the exotic aromas of the Middle East and Northern Africa. It's a complete experience, from the colourful Moroccan plates to the Middle Eastern brass lighting fixtures.
The breakfast lamb tagine ($18.50) is an exquisite combination of lamb mince, sucuk (spicy sausage), spinach, roast capsicum, roast tomato, caramelised onion, feta and eggs. To be eaten with Turkish bread and Lebanese bread, it is scrumptious and full on flavour.
The chakchouka scrambled eggs ($18) is tasty with bits of onion, tomato and capsicum and a side of smoked salmon.
We also share the chickpea fritters ($21) which comes with a miniature awesome pork belly shish kebab - with crackling and all - labne, baby spinach, roast tomato, poached egg and a capsicum sauce.
Last but not least, the French toast ($18) featuring bacon, glazed figs, double cream and an apple cinnamon syrup. Not for the faint hearted!

While Kazbah has been serving the neighbourhood for 13 years, Pizza e Birra has only been open in Balmain for a few months.
The Balmain branch is the third for Pizza e Birra. I haven't had dinner here yet but it's ever so popular sister restaurant in Surry Hills tells me that there is lots to look forward to. Breakfast here is just fabulous.
The big bicicletta breakfast ($16) is a sumptuous serving of eggs, Italian sausage, bacon, mushrooms, sauteed spinach and roast tomato.
And you can't go past the omelette ($14). It is delightfully fluffy with mushrooms, spinach and melted asiago cheese blanketed within. The perfect breakfast to start a lazy Sunday...
