Happy new year! Thank you all JENIUS readers for your friendship, support, emails & comments, and for making 2010 a fabulous year!
I spent this morning with the boy and his mother at the tranquil Nan Tien Temple down at the Gong. On top of committing to new year's resolutions, thousands of Buddhists gathered at the temple today to welcome the new year and to join in prayers for health and world peace.

Nan Tien Temple normally offers a scrumptious set lunch menu for $9 at the dining hall, but the Vegetarian Food Fair along the east corridor naturally caught my eye.
The food fair was a spectacular collection of vegetarian goodies including mock chicken with rice, deep fried wontons, fried rice noodles, Chinese radish cake and more.

The first thing I try is the pho chay (Vegetarian Vietnamese beef noodle soup, $8). Featuring mock beef, it is a cleansing vegetable and soy based broth with rice noodles, tofu, bean sprouts, topped with a handful of coriander and Vietnamese basil and some fresh ground chilli.
We also try the radish cake ($4 for four pieces).

The fried foods stall was extremely popular with trays and trays of crunchy golden morsels. I couldn't resist the curry puffs ($3 for two) and the spring rolls ($1 each).

And to finish, a cup of milk tea with tapioca pearl balls ($4) which was a great thirst quencher in the 40 degree heat.

The vegetarian food fair was available today 10am - 4pm and will be open tomorrow 1:30pm - 3pm.

Happy New Year! Although hot, at least it was nice weather to drive down to Nan Tien Temple for a day of vegetarian goodness and prayers.
Yup, a gorgeous day out!
Happy New Year Jen
Thanks Sara! :D
Happy New Year Jen. So many deep fried goodies - looks like a great day out.
Cheers Helen! I was so tempted to grab a bag full for the drive home but I thought about all the painful jogs I've been putting myself through, so just settled with only 2 curry puffs & a spring roll :-P
I love the look of the Vegetarian Beef Noodle Soup. The concept that something is both vegetarian and beef at the same time is kind of nifty. Have a happy new year.
Haha, I love my mock meats!
Happy New Year, I like the idea of a cleansing and spiritual start to the New Year, so much more sensible than the usual Western one of getting hammered to celebrate a new start!
Pssst - the temple visit was to counter the night before, LOL!
Just stumbled over your blog, and love it! The photography, layout and style of writing are all really refreshing.
Look forward to reading more of your posts!
Happy New Year :)
Thanks so much! Happy new year!
I didn't even know this place existed - it looks incredible. Must visit soon :)
I visited Nan Tien temple sometime during this time and it was great! I liked the bean curd cakes (in the same picture as the radish cakes) the most.
