In some rather upsetting news, I've just read that Rise Restaurant is closing its doors in Darlinghurst, after more than 10 years of operation. I've had many memorable meals at Rise and have always adored the creativity behind the restaurant's fusion of Japanese and European cuisines.
You can re-live some of my past visits here, here and here.

In a gesture to thank the loyal customers of Rise Restaurant, Chef Hideki Okazaki will be offering a six course degustation menu, his 'Sayonara Fair' between 4 - 28 November, 2010 (every Tuesday - Sunday).
Sayonara Fair
$48 per person
Steamed pork belly, cauliflower, sugar snap, rocket salad with "chuka" vinaigrette
Potato soup with tofu & scallop tempura
Assorted today's market sashimi
Soy milk flan with "shiitake" sauce
Rice paper rolls of cured salmon, omelette & gochujang mayo
Fish cake and green papaya
Soba salad with chunyang chilli prawn
Chicken confit, bamboo shoot, button mushroom and "zahsai " sauce
Today's dessert
Strict time sittings apply, 6 - 8pm or 8:30pm - late.
Call (02) 9357 1755 to make a booking.
So let's all dine at Rise, one last time...

That is sad! I went there this year for the first time and loved it.
Found out that the chef is going back to Japan for a while then may be looking to open an Italian restaurant back in Sydney! Sounds like an exciting venture. i'm just glad it's not the last we'll get to taste Hideki's creations!
Omg, I've always wanted to go here but never got round to it! AHhh I've just made a booking! haha. Thanks for the heads up Jen!
My pleasure! Glad to see you had an enjoyable meal there!
Awww you serz? :( I've been there once...and have been planning to go again since its in the Ent. book as well hehe. Sighs.
Hehe, it's always a challenge trying to use all the Entertainment Book vouchers!
I wont be missing it, thats for sure!
I went there with my wife about 6 months ago --- food was terrible and service was rude.
Hope something good opens up there in it's place.
Ah, well, the atmosphere has changed quite a bit over the years, but I still really enjoy the food and think it's good value for money.
$48 is SUCH good value! I've heard heaps of good and bad views- it's always a shame when a much loved venue closes.
I think some of their special event dinners have been a hit & miss, but overall, I'm going to miss their sashimi shots and seasonal pannacotta creations!
