My Lean Cuisine Challenge

When Mark Communications first approached me with a publicity initiative for Lean Cuisine, I wasn't too sure about the consequences involved with eating packaged food for lunch and dinner all week... but when I read that it was actually free from artificial colours, flavours and preservations, I was in.

The campaign as a whole is rather exciting! Three girlfriends live in a glass-front retail space on Bathurst Street, sort of like a Big Brother in the middle of Sydney's CBD. And over the duration of a week, they eat Lean Cuisine and take part in a fitness schedule, etc.

Lean Cuisine - Real Food Real Taste range
My week's worth of Lean Cuisine, thanks to Mark Communications

So along with two of my food blogging friends, ChocolateSuze and NotQuiteNigella, Mark Communications has supplied us with a week's worth of Lean Cuisine's new range of 'Real Food, Real Taste'.

Today was Day One.

Lean Cuisine 'Real Food' - Pumpkin, Spinach and Ricotta Lasagne
Lean Cuisine's Pumpkin, Spinach and Ricotta Lasagne, served with salad of baby spinach, olives stuffed with anchovies and diced roma tomatoes

Due to the rain, I felt like something really warm and hearty and opted for the Pumpkin, Spinach and Ricotta Lasagne. Having never had Lean Cuisine before or anything similar to it, I was surprised at how quick it was to turn the frozen box into a meal. I was also impressed with the plastic tray which was oven proof! The package even claimed the pasta was made from scratch.

How did it taste?
Considering it was 97% free, it was creamy and very satisfying! The pumpkin was sweet, the spinach and ricotta was a little too salty but it ticked all the boxes for me. Yummo!

Tonight's dinner will be the Rich & Creamy Mushroom Tortellini.

Without having to worry about lunch or dinner this week, I might just be able to push myself back to the gym!

Go you good thing! But don't you think the portion of LC is too small as I see u have a side salad to go with it? I used to have LC when I was lazy but always feel hungry afterwards and eat junk.

processed food = processed food = processed food

would you like some nasty plastic chemicals with your dinner tonight, darling? ;)

Wait a moment, am I reading this right? Chocolatesuze, NQN and yourself sit in a glass walled room for a week eating only lean cuisine and doing exercise?

Interesting...

hahaha, no no, what we're doing coincides with the 'open house' on Bathurst Street... we do the challenge in our own time, within our own usual routine or what not.

Look forward to seeing how you feel as the week progresses - I'd love it if you could blog your mood and energy levels!!

Hey Billy, i think it was a "healthy" serving size. I wasn't stuffed but just perfectly full. The salad was my attempt to make it look less like processed packaged food, hehehe :)

Hey Virginia, i had the same thoughts... but surely it's just an unproven myth otherwise these wouldn't be on sale in stores? :-\

Good idea Deb!

Today: so far feeling full of energy having eaten less than usual, hopefully i don't snack later in the night. Mood is very happy :)

Haha the portions do look tiny... maybe that is how you lose weight? Mmm loving the pumpkin, spinach and ricotta combination tho mmmmm
Good luck with it!

good luck with the challenge! looking forward to the results!

Good luck Jen, I'm keen to see the dessert if there is any :)
