Pastizzi Cafe, Newtown

Mmm... I have a new addiction. Pastizzi Cafe in Newtown is the modern day version of 1950's Maltese Cafe on Crown Street in Surry Hills. It is still a family run business and it shows in their friendly service.

They stock and serve hundreds of golden filo pastry parcels... chilli con carne, veggie curry, spinach & ricotta, chicken & mushroom are just some of the savoury ones to name.

And then there's the new sweet variety of cherry cheese, chocolate & ricotta (pictured below) and apple (also pictured below). These were so flaky and satisfying.

For those who just can't get enough of these heavenly things, grab a dozen of frozen ones to take home.

I love cafe! If the cheap and hearty pastizzi are anything to go by, I can't wait to try the pasta dishes. Ravioli, linguini and cannoli, here I come!

hi, i tried the ravioli here a while back.... and i kept coming back!! it was delicious!!! hey great website! keep up the great reviews!!!

hi there,
great review and photos! hope you don't mind but i put them on my blog and linked them back to your fantastic review. if i lived in Sydney i'd be at this place all the time!

I am from NZ (originally Malta) wish we had a pazztizi cafe in NZ

Oooh I'm half Maltese and my grandparents used to get pastizzi quite often from a little place in Carramar. These flavours look way more interesting than the plain ricotta or pea ones we used to get, and I love the look of the sweet ones! Will have to check it out, and grab a few packets for the freezer :)
